Sofia. The new law on wine provides for drastic penalties for violators, who offer wine and spirits of unknown origin. That is what Krasimir Koev, Executive Director of the Executive Agency on Vine and Wine said in an interview for FOCUS News Agency .
“The penalties are high enough and drastic to fall with all its weight upon anyone who decides that can circumvent the law. Everything is regulated. The first penalty is BGN 3000. There are penalties at the amount of BGN 10 000. Last year we imposed several already confirmed even by the court sanctions for BGN 30 000 and are collected. The maximum penalty for systematic violation is BGN 100 000″ Krasimir Koev added.

Sofia. “We welcome the new Wine and Spirit Drinks Act because it synchronises the European regulations and introduces some changes in Bulgaria, such as the possibility to monitor the entire market in terms of wine selling,” said Plamen Mollov, Chairperson of the National Vine and Wine Chamber (NVWC), in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.
The NVWC took part in the working out of the act.
“The control will be exerted by the NVWC. It will be enhanced and thus rendered more efficient. These measures aim at fighting the gray sector and we fully back this idea. There are some improvements in the legal basis. For instance, the number of the registries that the producers should fill in in connection to the requirements has been decreased. This is a good measure, required by the business – to make these journals electronic, which is a positive change for the big companies,” Mollov added.
Mollov commented further that as a whole the act is good, meets the conditions in Bulgaria and fills in some of the existing gaps.

Sofia. The new bill on wine and spirits introduces heavier fines for illegal production, said Bulgarian Agriculture and Food Minister Miroslav Naydenov, cited by FOCUS News Agency.
The amendments target wine production. There are many drinks which seem like wine, but they are not made of grapes. The bill regulates such cases, he said further.
We want to set the sector in order, the way we did with food production. The bill also steps up control and transposes European legislation and makes fines heftier, noted the minister.
